Flores Statement on the Fort Hood Shooting Verdict

Statement

Date: Aug. 23, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding the military jury convicting Army Major Nidal Hasan guilty on all counts of murder and attempted murder in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting:

"I hope that the victims and victims' families can rest a little easier now that Nidal Hasan has been rightly convicted for his heinous acts, which can be considered as the deadliest terrorist attack on U.S. soil since September 11th.

"We must now continue our work to ensure that those killed and wounded at Fort Hood receive the same benefits and honors as their counterparts who are wounded or killed in an overseas combat zone or in a declared terrorist attack. These Americans have made tremendous sacrifices for our country and it is time we honor those sacrifices justly. I will continue to stand with Congressman Carter as he leads the efforts to grant the victims and victims' families the equal treatment and benefits they deserve."

Congressman Bill Flores represents the 17th District of Texas and is an entrepreneur, former energy executive, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and member of the House Budget, Natural Resources and Veterans' Affairs Committees.
